The Life Extension Technology Workshop is an effective framework for promoting the
cooperation and experience sharing among City Governments (Current participants: Boston, London, New York,
Madrid, Paris, Philadelphia, Rome, Toronto) - Public & Private Utilities (ConEdison, Keyspan, GDF Energy,
Ondeo, Vivendi water) - and R&D Industry. The prime objective is to effectively contribute and accelerate
demonstration and large-scale deployment of innovative technologies for upgrading the performance of the
urban infrastructure and the quality of the vital services it supports.
Following the 2001 LET Workshop recommendations, the UUC, under the leadership of its Board of Directors,
has undertaken the development of an international strategic framework to effectively address the local
and national needs for the assessment and improvement of urban lifelines' security management strategies.
The prime focus areas of the inter-city cooperation are expected to include urban energy and water distribution systems.
